Baptism
Baptism CardBaptism is the first sacrament of Christian initiation and the gateway to life in the Spirit. In Baptism, we are born again of water and the Holy Spirit as children of God. Baptism makes us part of the new creation, members of Christ’s Body and heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Greek word baptizein means to wash or to immerse. Whether we are literally immersed in water or the water is poured upon us, the effects of Baptism are the same. The washing with water symbolizes the fact we are cleansed of Original Sin and any other personal sins we may have committed. Being plunged into water three times reminds us of the three days of Christ’s burial, and makes us sharers in His Death and Resurrection. As St. Paul so eloquently states, “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the

Baptism is a sacrament Doveof faith. However, it is only within the living faith of the Church that each of the faithful can come to believe. Therefore, both infants and adults need the community of believers for their faith to mature. Children especially need their parents to show them genuine Christian belief and practice.

Our parish community at St. Rose of Lima is always overjoyed to welcome new members through the Sacrament of Baptism. We have several programmes designed to prepare those seeking Baptism, so please choose the one which applies to you and read the expectations/requirements carefully.
