Marriage

MarriageMarriage is a covenant or partnership for life between a man and woman. God made this covenant for the well-being of the spouses, as well as the procreation and upbringing of children. When validly contracted between two baptized people, marriage is a sacrament. Holy Matrimony enables the couple to love one another with supernatural, tender, and fruitful love. Christ dwells with the spouses and gives them the grace necessary to live out their commitment in “mutual and lasting fidelity.” The couple profess their openness to receiving new life from God, and God grants them also the grace to bring up their children in the Christian faith.

Holy BibleSacred Scripture begins with the creation of man and woman as spouses in the image and likeness of God and concludes with a glorious vision of the Wedding Feast of the Lamb. In other words, the whole of creation and redemption is a marriage Marriagebetween God and His people. For this reason St. Paul teaches that the union of husband and wife is an image of the union between Christ and His Church (Eph 5:25-32). Living up to the model of Christ is often demanding, but this struggle is the only path to covenanted happiness.

Couples are required to attend a Marriage Preparation Program approved by the Catholic Church.

It is recommended that the couple spiritually prepare themselves through prayer, Scriptural meditation, and regular participation in the Holy Eucharist.
